About

Hi, I'm Frank (he/him), a clinical psychologist and the director of Frank Sattler Psychology. I support individuals and couples with relationship challenges, LGBTQIA+ related concerns, attachment issues, trauma/PTSD, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties.

I aim to be empathetic, creating a safe, collaborative space where clients can explore their experiences, emotions, and history, understand the cycles that keep them stuck, and develop new ways of engaging with themselves and others.

Prior to setting up independently, I worked in private practice in Australia, and in Germany across private practice, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and universities. I offer therapy in both English and German.

I have also lived in Spain and now live in Sydney with my husband.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, I am currently welcoming new clients and look forward to hearing from you.

I currently don’t offer weekend or after-hours sessions.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, the latest session begins at 4 pm.

Yes. If a day you prefer is fully booked, I can add you to a waiting list for that day and let you know if a spot becomes available.

I don't maintain a general waiting list, as I usually have appointments available within a week.

If you hold a Medicare card, you can obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan through your GP. This plan provides Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychological sessions per calendar year. Most plans start with 6 sessions, with the option to access up to 4 additional sessions after a review with your GP.

The current Medicare rebate for sessions with Frank is $145.25 per session.

Your referral must be received before or at the appointment for which you wish to claim your first Medicare rebate.

Ensure your referral includes:

  • Your name, date of birth, and address

  • Your symptoms or diagnosis

  • A list of current medications

  • The number of sessions your are referred for (maximum of 6 in the first referral)

  • The type of plan (Mental Health Treatment Plan or Psychiatric Assessment and Management Plan)

For individual therapy, Medicare rebates are available with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan ($145.25 per session).

Couples therapy rebates are not available.

If you have private health insurance, you might like to check whether your policy covers individual or couples therapy sessions.

I do not currently offer bulk-billed sessions.

The first four sessions are assessment sessions: one joint session, one individual session for each partner, and a final joint session. In this last session, we review what we've learned together and discuss whether couples therapy is the best next step. If it isn't, I'll provide alternative recommendations and supports to help you both move forward.

Discernment Counselling (DC) is designed for married or similarly committed couples on the brink of separation/divorce, where one partner is deciding whether to separate/divorce (the "leaning-out" spouse), and the other hopes to restore the relationship (the "leaning-in" spouse).

DC follows a structured process:

  • A 50-minute screening call to begin, consisting of a 25-minute individual call with each partner to assess suitability for the process,

  • A 120-minute first session (including intake and assessment questions), and

  • Up to four 90-minute subsequent sessions.

At the end of each session, clients decide whether to continue the process.

DC is time-bound, creating a sense of urgency around three possible outcomes:

  1. Maintaining the status quo,

  2. Separate/divorcing,

  3. Committing to a 6-months, all-in effort in couples therapy to restore the marriage.

The structure of each session is as follows:

  • Both spouses present: Check-in (and for the first session: intake)

  • Spouse 1 present: One-on-one session

  • Both spouses present: Spouse 1 summarises key elements of their one-on-one session

  • Spouse 2 present: One-on-one session

  • Both spouses present: Spouse 1 summarises key elements of their one-on-one session

  • Both spouses present: Check-out

No, I do not provide psychological reports for legal, insurance, medical procedures, or other official purposes. The only reports I prepare are those needed to support your therapy under a mental health care plan.
